Purple Peel BLOG:  Eleanor Hawkins

I was very excited when my friend, who works at Laser Clinics Australia Darlinghurst, asked me to be a model for their latest skin peel demonstration, The purple peel. The most I do for my skin is the occasional facial and cheeky Botox treatment. I think my skin is relatively good for my age (32), however I would love to improve the pore size across my cheeks and nose, and also a small scaly patch of skin on my forehead which I have only started to notice recently.
Prepping the skin. I was given some Skinstitut products to prepare my skin for the two weeks prior to my treatment; a Glycolic Cleanser, Even Blend Serum, Retinol A Cream, Perfect Protection. I will use these religiously to make sure there are no complications and to ensure I get the best results!

Day 1 AM:
It’s the day of the peel and I am both excited and nervous. I have cancelled all social arrangements for the weekend in case I look like Sam from Sex and The City!  I have already noticed improvements on the scaly patch on the forehead from my use of the Skinstitut products.

Day 1 PM:
I have had the peel!  It started with a consult with my therapist, Crystal, where by we went over my skin concerns. I mentioned the pores and the scaly skin, although the scaly skin is barely noticeable now. Crystal told me the peel is perfect for correcting these problems and that whilst it will be a great refreshment for all my skin, she will make sure she concentrates on these areas. I lay on the bed and the treatment began with a cleanse. When the peel was applied, my skin felt warm and “tingley”, it was not too uncomfortable and it helped that Crystal was directing cool air on my skin with a portable fan. Crystal mentioned that my skin was responding well and applied another “pass” to my problem areas. This intensified the heat, however was definitely tolerable. My eye is on the prize, “beautiful skin”!  After a few minutes Crystal removed the product and applied what she described as a “cold compress” which felt very calming. The treatment in total lasted under 20 minutes. The feeling was tolerable, at most I would say it had a bit of a “bite”. I was pleasantly surprised.

Day 2:
The day after. My skin is feeling very tight, stretched and shiny. I feel like it looks like I have had Botox over my entire face! I am following instructions; washing my face morning and night with Skinstitut Gentle Cleanser and applying Skinstitut Rejuvenate 15, which I have been told will assist in the skin regeneration and reducing any uncomfortable irritation and sensitivity. I am not wearing make-up, however aside from the stretched skin, my tone is fine.

Day 3:
Skin still very tight and feeling warm. I have noticed some areas on my face have gone slightly red and blotchy. The sun damage on my forehead and temples, which I hadn’t really noticed before, has darkened. My skins feels a bit irritated, however regularly applying the Rejuvenate 15 is a relief.

Day 4:
Skin is peeling! My nose, cheeks, sides of mouth, and forehead are experiencing the most peeling. My skin is relatively blotchy and at times itchy. As I am back at work, I have been able to even out the uneven tone (redness) with mineral make up and a green based primer (suggested to me by Crystal).

Day 7:
I have been able to gently exfoliate today in order to remove the dead skin which is now just in concentrated patches across my face. The redness has gone down and my fresh, new skin is looking fantastic. There is a noticeable difference in the pores on my cheeks and nose. I am excited to say there are no visible pores on my nose and I have no scaly skin on my forehead. The pigmentation which “came alive” after the treatment has evened out and in general my skin is looking a lot more even and clearer. A couple of work colleagues who have seen my skin develop over the past few days have gone in and booked treatments!

Top 6 Most ‘Worth It’ Cosmetic Procedures

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

We all tend to pop our rose-coloured glasses on when looking at the idea of having a cosmetic procedure done. We tell ourselves that if we don’t do it, there’s just no way that our body will ever change itself, and that we really have nothing to lose. However, once the procedure is finished, the money is paid, and after the swelling has gone down and you look relatively normal again, there is no doubting that generally, people feel that some cosmetic procedures are more ‘worth it’ than others. Today we check out some comments from a sample of real-life women and men and their quest for self-improvement, and their judgements about which cosmetic procedures were the most worth it. While there are several invasive, surgical procedures that people also felt was worth it, we’re starting slow and focusing on the easy procedures first!

Non-Surgical Nose Jobs

Dermal FillersNon-surgical nose jobs are performed with dermal fillers, and they are especially popular with people who have already had a surgical nose job but didn’t quite get the look they were hoping for.

Both males and females are generally happy with non-surgical rhinoplasty with dermal fillers, saying that the lack of downtime, the instant results and the very low cost made it very much worth it. Complaints often centred on the fact that the dermal fillers aren’t permanent.

Laser Acne Treatment

Many people rave about laser acne treatment, with its suitability for all skin types and all stages and levels of acne breakout. People who’ve had laser acne treatment advise others to be patient and to keep up with the sessions regularly; people also feel especially positive about the improvement in skin texture from laser acne treatment, caused by the stimulation of collagen formation in the skin.

Candela GentleYAG

This laser is mostly used for broken capillaries, birthmarks and facial rosacea, and will also help improve skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles. For people with severe rosacae and birthmarks, they say it was worth every cent to stop being so self-conscious. Minor issues include scabbing, though this will always subside with time!

Laser Hair Removal

The vast majority of reviewers say that laser hair removal was worth it for them! Both women and men are immensely enthusiastic about the time they’ve gained back now that they don’t have to shave or wax. Unfortunately some people have visited operators that use the wrong type of laser, or are inexperienced in using the models they do have, which can create hypo- or hyper-pigmentation and small burns. All our staff at Laser Clinics undergo extensive training and are fully qualified for their position, fortunately!

Accutane

Accutane is an ultra-high dose form of vitamin A; you might know it as Retin-A. Many people adore the long term results it gets for their acne … but there are just as many reviews that caution people to be wary of mood swings, hair loss and other side effects from this medication.

LASIK Eye Surgery

LASIK Eye Surgery is offered at separate clinics to ordinary cosmetic procedures like dermal fillers, laser hair removal etc, but the comments are generally so positive we had to include it in the list! People are most happy with not having the hassle of glasses or contacts constantly. Rare complaints centre around dry or stinging eyes.

Due to the generally low costs, low risks and low downtime from non-invasive cosmetic procedures like those that we specialise in at Laser Clinics Australia, people are thrilled with the results. Remember to check out our Specials page frequently, and make it even more ‘worth it’!
